AESCULAN®
anal ointment

Composition:
Active substances: dry extract of chesnut bark (Hippocastani corticis extractum siccum) 50 mg/g, lidocaine hydrochloride (Lidocaini hydrochloridum) 5 mg/g.
Excipients: tannin - chamomile oil, polyoxyethylene glycol 300, white petroleum, lanolin, bronopol, purified water. Available packages: aluminium tube containing 30g of the ointment in a cardboard box.

What is Aesculan® and what is it used for?
Aesculan® is an ointment used to alleviate the symptoms of haemorrhoids during the first stage of the disease, such as minor pain and itching. The efficacy of the product in the above indications has only been established by long-term therapeutic use and experience. It is assumed that the product will have a local anaesthetic effect and a mild anti-inflammatory and styptic effect.

Therapeutic indications:
Haemorrhoidal disease.

Before you use Aesculan®
Do not use Aesculan® if you are hypersensitive to any ingredient of the product. Take special caution if strong pain, excessive anal bleeding or other alarming symptoms occur. In all such cases, consult your doctor.

Children:
No studies of the safety of the product in children have been carried out. The product must not be administered to children below the age of 12 years without prior consultation with a doctor.

Pregnancy:
No controlled clinical trials have been undertaken on pregnant women. The product must not be used without prior consultation with your doctor.

Lactation:
The product must not be used without prior consultation with your doctor.

Driving and operating machinery:
This product, when taken as recommended, has no effect on the ability to drive or to operate machinery.

Taking other medicines:
Tell your doctor about all medicines you have taken recently, even those obtained without a prescription. Using Aesculan® concurrently with local anaesthetic drugs is not recommended.

How to use Aesculan®?
Unless otherwise directed by your doctor, apply the ointment on the lesion using the enclosed cannula or push about 0.5-1.0g into the rectum (an ointment strip of about 2cm in length).
If you use more Aesculan® than you should - there is no data on the symptoms of overdose.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Aesculan® can have side effects. No side effects of Aesculan® ointment have been reported so far. Local use of products containing lidocaine can occasionally cause an allergic reaction and, in rare cases, this may lead to anaphylactic shock. If you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor.

How to store Aesculan®
Store below 25°C. Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.
